Pakistan’s share of water is guaranteed under the Indus Waters Treaty – Deputy Prime Minister
Pakistan will continue its efforts for the full implementation of the treaty – Foreign Minister
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar stated that Pakistan will take all appropriate steps to safeguard its rightful share of water. According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, a meeting chaired by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was held to review India’s move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty. The meeting was attended by federal ministers for law and water resources, the Attorney General, senior officials, and technical experts.
On the occasion, Ishaq Dar emphasized that Pakistan’s share of water is guaranteed under the Indus Waters Treaty. He said India’s unilateral suspension of the treaty is in violation of international law and the treaty’s own provisions. The treaty is vital for regional stability, and upholding its sanctity is essential.
He stressed that the waters of the Indus River are a lifeline for Pakistan’s 240 million people and strongly condemned India’s attempts to use water as a weapon. He reaffirmed that Pakistan will continue its efforts for the complete implementation of the treaty and will ensure the protection of its water rights and the welfare of its people.
